Remember that pesky tampon tax? Well, it’s not gone yet, but a very small step was made toward healthcare affordability for women. There was a lot of other questionable political maneuvering made around limiting abortion and trans rights in the same bill, which we are absolutely not okay with, but in the effort to uncover positive news amid the craziness right now, we’re are shedding light on this exciting bit of news!
The historic $2 trillion relief package that was just signed in response to the Coronavirus pandemic now allows pre-tax funds to be used for period products like pads, tampons, menstrual cups, sponges, and similar products. If you have an HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account), you’re able to put money aside pre-tax and then spend on specific health-related expenses. It’s crazy to think menstrual products weren’t included until now, but hey we’ll take this tiny silver lining. So next time you shop for your period supplies, remember to use your HSA/FSA and save that little bit of federal income tax every month.
