Your Menstrual Cycle
ARE PERIODS MORE PAINFUL AS A TEENAGER?
YES, they can be!
Research shows that 80 % of teens experience heavy, painful periods, but this does not mean painful heavy periods are normal for teenagers.
WHY?
While heavy and painful periods are common in teenagers they are certainly not normal. These painful periods known as dysmenorrhea are often a sign that there could be hormone imbalances between estrogen and progesterone. Teens often experience fluctuation in hormones as their cycles are getting started.
What is a normal period?
- Arrives regularly every 21-35 days
- Minimal cramping and pain
- 6 to 8 teaspoons of blood TOTAL
- Not soaking through tampons or pads
- Cranberry colored blood
- Minimal Clotting
